Virtualization Defined

Virtualization

Virtualization is the process of combining multiple server operating systems in a single piece of hardware. With the advances in server technology, it is possible to combine many operating systems together without sacrificing performance. The force driving server virtualization is similar to that which led to the development of time-sharing and multi-programming in the past. Although the resources are still shared, as under the time-sharing model, virtualization provides a higher level of security. Dependent on the type of virtualization used the individual virtual servers are mostly isolated from each other and may run their own full-fledged operating system which can be independently rebooted as a virtual instance.

We can help you Virtualize, Unvirtualize or Revirtualize your Systems:
- Move to a virtualized platform (P2V) from physical
- Move back to a physical platform due to many issues (V2P, Bare Metal Restore) from virtual
- Move to a different VM environment (V2V) from previous virtual

Server Virtualization

Partitioning a single server to appear as multiple servers have been increasingly common on microcomputers since the launch of VMware in 2001. The physical server typically runs a hypervisor which is tasked with creating, releasing, and managing the resources of "guest" operating systems, or virtual machines. If is also possible to mix operating system such as different versions of Windows and Linux on the different Virtual platforms. We have done this for ourselves and customer in both VMware and Hyper-V platforms.

Desktop Virtualization

Virtual desktop technology has been around since the middle 1980's. While they have evolved many times since then the power and flexibility have never been greater. The end user computing landscape is evolving from an environment based primarily on personal computers running Windows applications to an environment where users:

    • - move between endpoint devices during the workday
    • - expert to be able to stay connected to their professional and personal networks
    • - want their data to be available
    • - want their application to be available

We will help you decide what approach is best and then implement it for you.
